History of Clarksville:
Clarksville was founded in 1784 by Colonel John Montgomery and named after General George Rogers Clark, who was an Indian warrior and leader of the Revolutionary War. Clarksville was established in 1785 as part of Colonial North Carolina. In 1788 Clarksville was designated as a tobacco delivery inspection site, and within a few years the small town of Tennessee became a trading hub.
