A Financial Advisor is Like a Doctor

July 18, 2023

Imagine you're at a party where you strike up a conversation with a doctor and a financial advisor. Would your first question to the doctor be, "What medications should I take?" Of course not! Similarly, your first question to the financial advisor should not be, "What stocks should I buy?" The questions are equally absurd.

Next, place yourself at the doctor's office with a nagging stomach ache. Would you expect your doctor to render an accurate diagnosis if you only showed her your arm? No! Similarly, you shouldn't expect your financial advisor to properly plan for your future if you aren't honest and transparent about your assets and liabilities, no matter how abundant or embarrassing you think they may be.

If you are ill, you go to the doctor's office, let them run their tests, review the results, and follow a prescribed course of treatment to get better. The same is true when it comes to your finances. If your financial future is unclear, go to a financial advisor, build a plan, review the results, and follow the steps necessary to work toward your goals. If you're looking to take the first step, feel free to reach out to our team.
